I don't swear much _but_ the Kat has just got a new machine running
Windoze 8 with Office 2013 and it is a real pain. We can both deal with
the novelty of the Windoze UI but how the hell can you tell Word 2013 to
set a complete document written using Word 2003 that it should regard it
as English? In 2003 all you had to do was select the complete text then
set the language as English(UK). Is that possible in 2013? No way!
The problem is that the Kat sometimes cuts and pastes from (say) a
Slovak document into an English one. 2013 seems to regard the language
in the pasted chunk as being immutable.
Solutions or workarounds will be gratefully received and may even result
in (virtual) beer tokens

Possible solutions:
- Install Windows 7 and Office 2003.
- Use OpenOffice instead.
- Install Linux and OpenOffice.
- Go live in the wilderness of north Canada or Siberia, away from all
civilization.

I do and I put it on the Kat's machine as well. I'm a bit concerned
about Libre Office writing in .doc format though. Kat's publications
have to be submitted in that format (she lectures on Medieval History
and her publishers are positively medieval in what they accept; they
won't even accept .pdf)

I think we may have tried that, but I'll check tomorrow. I'm at my own

I had a similar problem last week, in power point, I'm not too sure what
version. I had a powerpoint sent to me as template for a weekly status
report. (??? WTF)
The header was English (US), text boxes were Dutch and the text was
French. Setting the Proofing Language had no effect. I couldn't find the
language command in the tabs. So I customised the ribbon by adding a
group then adding the Set Language command to it. So I could do Ctrl + A
and click
Mind you, the install on my works craptop is annoyingly bad. It boots up
to Dutch language with a QWERTY (US) k/board.
Oh! And Firefox thinks that I am Danish.

I have Office 2013 installed, and that seemed to do the trick - I did a
short document in English and Spanish, selected the Spanish text and used
the proofing tools to tell it it was Spanish, then ran a spellcheck and
it corrected misspellings in both languages.

I am actively looking for another job because of that and working with
the management. So don't get me started. ;-)
I had an interview today, for a job based at the Elephant and Castle.
Only one change on the tube and I would get on one stop after the
terminus. Cross your fingers.
