Not the first time it happens. XP or Vista also had the source "leaked" in its
entirety. Someone lucky enough may want to turn off Windows Genuine Advantage
and DRM features, compile it and maintain themselves... ;)

I think that the point was that the article has no mention of the source
code having been leaked.

... which seems to have bitten MS in the butt, given the number of
complaints about things broken in the beta that the general populace thinks
are still broken in the release versions.

Ah, well. The article writer used "code" more than once.. I tend to
equate code with source not binaries, so misread that. :p

void main () {
if version = "Vista" {
call slow_by_half();
call DRM_everything();
}
call functional_code();
}
else
call crash_windows();
}

Since when is "binaries" the same as "code", since that is the only
other interpretation of that sentence that makes sense at all. Mind, its
possible the author is too stupid to know the difference, but...

Code can mean anything. There's "binary/machine code", there's "source
code", there's "ASCII code", there's "Goedel code"... etc. "Source" has to
be explicit, to mean anything human readable, as "code" by itself implies
something "cryptic" (a more precise information theory definition exists).

I haven't read the article yet, but from what I've heard from other sources,
all that's leaked is the beta that was going to be publically released in
just over a week.

Having read the article, there is no way that the writer means source code
when he talks about code
"So if Microsoft wanted a broad collection of users to have access to the
code, the company could easily make it freely downloadable and would not
need to leak it."
"One reason a company might give the code to a selected number of people
prior to release is to get some positive reaction to build excitement for
the eventual release,"
Neither of those statements could possibly apply to the source code

I'm honestly rather surprised that such things happen so rarely, myself.
