Beat me to it by eons with that link. Well, I had that page signposted
this afternoon, but was looking for something better, but it isn't there for
the 100S notebook. Too old for the 'net methinks. Google isn't good for a
lot of things it seems.

:(

There's many things I looked for and concluded were "too old for the
net". (has anyone heard of "3D Dinosaur Adventure" from "Knowledge
Adventure"?)

Man where did you find that? Just put the whole thing in a bonfire
somewhere!

Actually, I was thinking, if I burry it in, say, 5 Kg or thermite and
light the sucker... in a few moments' time the entire chasis should be a
pool of molten steel. I'm pretty sure there won't be too many magnetic
domains intact on the surface of the platters - if endeed those surfaces
stille exist.

On the other hand... where would I buy thermite from?

Why, you just make it yourself. Isn't that the stuff where you get a load
of aluminium filings and rust and then light it? YOu need a strip of
magnesium to light it though IIRC from school.

From Wikipedia:

"Additionally, thermite grenades are used by friendly forces to destroy
their own items and equipment when there is imminent danger of capture"

:-)

Well, I *do* have a large canister of laboritory-grade aluminium
powder... but how to get finely powdered rust? (The finer the powder,
the better it burns.) Not to mention magnesium ribbon - I used up my
last strip, oh, 12 years ago. :-(

Errm, a google for "iron oxide powder" brought up these guys on the first
page:

Looks like those guys above have some magnesium too.

I recall from a "black book" I read once that mixing aluminum filings plus plaster of
paris in a tin can, then allowing it to dry, makes a good incendiary device. It'd be
hard to light too, but burns
quite hot, from what I read. The purpose was to burn through support beams holding up
water towers, lookouts, etc.
