im having a strange problem with rendering spotlights in a scene filled with
atmosphere in 3.02.
its hard to explain, so please look at
http://www.deakin.edu.au/~cafield/light.jpg if you think you can help me
out.
i've tried altering all of the variables in the atmosphere, but nothing
seems to work.

You didn't mention what you were looking for it to be like, brighter
beams of light I suppose though, right?
In 3.0* the atmosphere brightens when scattering is lowered typically
due to the fact that scattering also causes light to also diminish as it
increases. You could try atmospheric_attenuation off in the lights and
that might remedy it also (leave atmosphere on). I'm quickly forgetting
how POV 3.02 works but this should help.

Sorry, looking back i didnt really make myself too clear did i?
The problem was the 'spheres' (for want of a better word) which have
appeared halfway along the beams of light...It looks like the lights are
shining on a ball which doesnt have any texture, but leaves some sort of
shadow.
I've only just discovered that there was a Povray 3.1, but i need to
complete this 'project' i'm working on, and as yet havent properly figured
out the usage of media.....
Thanks anyway, as the brightness was another problem i was trying to deal
with ;-)

Heck, I thought there was supposed to be balls in that picture!
You must be encountering a similar effect I had once. If overlapping (I
know, maybe not even overlapping) lights are in atmosphere they can
cause granular interference somehow. Seems the only remedy I had
available was to increase the samples greatly (70 I believe). I didn't
take a note down of it otherwise I'd know exactly what to tell you.
