Is anyone out there willing to help me to answer a couple of questions
for the VFAQ? I don't have enough knowledge to answer comprehensively.

  1) How can I convert files from format X to povray?
  2) How can I get rid of the beep after povray has calculated the image?
  3) How can I convert the old halo and atmosphere to the new media?

main(i){char*_="BdsyFBThhHFBThhHFRz]NFTITQF|DJIFHQhhF";while(i=
*_++)for(;i>1;printf("%s",i-70?i&1?"[]":" ":(i=0,"\n")),i/=2);} /*- Warp. -*/

Use an external converter, like XRoads

In POV 3.1:

Render -> On Completion -> Remove [v] in front of "Beep"

There's a discussion going on in povray.binaries.images regarding this. I
don't think we've reached a complete solution yet, though.

1) (other people knows best here)

2) either :
a)use the -P command-line option, wich also disable pause at the end
of the rendering
   b)unplug the little speaker
c)use wax balls in your ears, play music loud,...

3) Forget all about halos, learn everything about media. (really
serious ! they are so conceptually
different, you'll get a big headache before even getting close)

Cheers,
Fabien.

Exactly. Thanx for the answer. Are there any other programs than those two?

This doesn't really answer the question...

There are many other conversion tools, mostly old and for DOS, that
have been written. Most of these are format specific like raw2dxf,
dxf2raw, pov2mdl etc. The only source for these I know of was on
the first official Pov CD from Walnut Creek. The three programs
I listed before have eliminated the need for most of these and I don't
have links to any others.
