Hi all,
I attached a pic of a 'air level' (don't know if it's the exact word in
english ), and the problem is: at the right of the level, there is the
shadow of one cylinder, but in reality, this shadow doesn't cast...
Is there a way to define an object as 'shadowless'? , or at least define
its level of 'shadowing' ?

Hi Sax, you missed the mark about where to post this image+question,
povray.binaries.images would have been best. Also posting a separate
question-only at povray.general saying to have a look at the image at
povray.binaries.images would be good. Anyway, not as many people will see
this here.
To answer, 'no_shadow' (less the single quotes) can totally remove the shadow
but only if this were CSG 'union', otherwise the individual cylinder objects
can't have no_shadow applied in a CSG 'difference' for example. However, I
find it hard to believe the shadow doesn't exist in real life although I
cannot prove you wrong just now either.

I wonder if he is not referring to this totally (?) black square in the
right corner. could that not be one of those max_trace_level things? I think
there are enough mirrors in this one. Don't know where else it should come
from (But I don't get the hole shape of this one).

yeah, er, sorry about the wrong place of posting... It won't happen anymore
In fact, there is a shadow casted by the object, but it is a more diffuse shadow,
where you don't recognize the shape of a cylinder, but ok, i'm just a beginner in
raytracing and I have sooooo much to learn in this subject, maybe in some months,
i'll find the exact way to render my object properly...

btw, i'll post another image with some air levels in the appropriate newsgroup,
if you want to check....

Many first-time posters post to the wrong groups. You should read the
messages in povray.announce.frequently-asked-questions, there is a
message by Ken there explaining the purpose of these groups and general

Maybe photon mapping will render the shadow more accurately. This object
looks like the colored portion should be refracted away, not casting a
simple shadow. However, photon mapping is currently only available in an
unofficial version: MegaPOV, http://nathan.kopp.com/
You might also want to try an area light...that should smooth out the
shadows and blur their edges. Check the POV-Ray manual, section "4.5.5.4
Area Light".
