In defense of Chuck let's just say he is fairly new around here and has not
picked up on the protocols of this news server. Chuck please post your images
in povray.binaries.images. The prefered format is a compressed .jpg as that
is what the majority of news browsers can handle. If you do post in .bmp or
.tga we request that you archive the file in .zip or some similar format to
help those with slower cable access. Many pay for access by the minute and
download messages to read them offline. When you post images with large file
sizes it costs them more than those fortunate to have unlimited access of
fast cable modem access. The .png format also has a built in compression
ability so post those in compressed format if possible. There is a set of
guidelines for posting on this server in the:
povray.announce.frequently-asked-questions group on this server. It would
behove you to stop by and read this when time permits as well as the other
announcments posted in that group.

It's also worth noting that you posted it in the wrong group.  This
group is for scene files, which usually means files in .pov or .inc
format, optionally compressed using zip or similar programs.  Images
should be posted in povray.binaries.images.

Oh, sorry for not being PC....   you must filter out a lot of life if
you ignore anything which may lower morale...

It got said because of the extreme number of people I've found who have
no idea whatsoever of optimising images for the net (you wouldn't
believe the number of 200k jpg's I've seen on various pages that can be
resaved to 60k, with no loss of image).

ignorance is not a mistake, and is not a wrong thing, 

what is wrong is making ignorance a virtue, almost a god, and refusing
to acknowledge that one does not know something.

my point is made by the fact that he reposted the file as jpg..  hence
he must know something about jpg..  so why the bitmap in the first
place?
