Trevor, it would be a shame for you to miss out so I've registered you
as and sent you the P/Word to the email above.

That brushed metal finish on the lens housing looks great, how was it made?

This reminds me of a recent Wired article:
http://www.wired.com/magazine/2010/07/ff_daguerrotype_panorama/ A very
interesting read: it really makes me wish I could get a hold of some hi-res
daguerreotype scans just to gaze at.

On a related note, It would be fun to travel to different cities and photograph
scenes with some hi-res camera like the new gigapixel cameras that are being
developed:
http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=gigapixel-camera-revealed In a
single snapshot images that would have taken minutes to photograph and piece
together can be made in a fraction of the time...

peer into the past with such detail? Resonance interpreters haven't been
developed yet...

Nice entry Trevor, I know what it's like to be crunched for time (since I almost
always submit at the last minute).

And speaking of time - did Thomas' time travel jaunt actually mess up the time
line and delay the development of this "photography" technology a full century??
(because your title is "1939 Deguerretype")

Maybe Thomas can intervene and fix the temporal anomaly for you ;)

Thanks. I was able to fix it myself...

Yes it was kind of crunch as I only really had a look at this less than a week
ago and decided to throw it together. I usually don't take time to develop
renders, so I do like these challenges as they give me some direction.

Just micro-normal approach with heavy focal blur AA. The normals are biased to
get the directional effects (e.g. circular normals for the radial).

The more I think of it, the more I imagine this would be done much more
efficiently internally where normals gould be averaged much more smoothly.

This is really cool stuff. Thanks for sharing it.

It is better for me *not* to intervene. Experience learns that the mess
increases exponentially ;-)
