Hi all,

Although I got first place in the final 2007 TC-RTC round for the topic
Aeroplanes, I ran out of time during the competition and submitted my entry
unfinished.

I had a bit of free time the last few days and decided to put some finishing
touches on my entry. I added some pilots (conspicuously absent in the original)
and some media steam trails from the steampunkish flyer engines. Anyway, here it
is in final form.

Nifty! I don't despise "Steampunk" or anything like that, but I like your style
much better than a good deal of the imagery that I have seen under that
heading.  Whereas much (certainly not all) of the standard Steampunk canon
tends toward a grungy, dystopic world view, your work seems to me to be in a
more light-hearted, adventure-loving vein that I prefer.

Interesting differentiation that I hadn't really teased out before.  Mike, do
you have any further examples of this non-dystopic Steampunk?  I'd be
interested to see more variety.

Most of my exposure to Steampunk occurred when it was "all the rage" amongst
that disreputable class of persons known as role playing game hobbyists, of
which I am a member.  While most of the materials provided by Eberron and GURPS
were (IMHO) decidedly dystopian, those from Iron Kingdoms and OGL were better
suited to "fun and adventure" type scenarios.  As for novels, my
far-less-than-expert recommendation would be the works of Tim Powers, e.g. "The
Anubis Gates".

The "unfinished" image was enough for me. Inspired me to take the motion blur
patch from megapov and a stereoscopic patch and compile POV v.3.6.3

Used explicit linking of HHCtrl.ocx to get around non-existent htmlhelp.lib and
got everything working, So you can do this the animation I'd like to see you do
in 3D, of course you'd need a giant quad or 3.

 Amazing what an image can do to ya.
