Well, for my french class at school, we're supposed to design our dream home,
and present it to the class.  Well, I thought of using Pov-ray to program the
entire thing, and it's working.

The image attatched to this post is the kitchen.  The floor is still not
finalized (I'm using a grid for coordinate reference). And the mirrors are
actually glass, but they're made to behave like real glass, and it's night
outside, so they're reflecting the room.

Also I programmed everything here, all the counters and all.

I put it here so I could get opinions.  the goal is to approach as much
photorealish as possible.  Any comments for improvement would be greately
appreciated.

I'm working on the living room now.  Again, comments greatly appreciated.

Very creative to use POV for your project!  As far as photorealism--that can be
difficult.  But here are a few suggestions you might try:

Lighting:
-  Using fading light sources
-  For your light fixtures, you can use objects with "shadowless" and
"double_illuminate" or, simply set ambient to 1 (or higher).
-  Use high quality radiosity settings.  Set error_bound to 1.0 or less (as low
as 0.2 in fact, but be prepared for a slow render!).

Textures:
-  There's always a lot of work that can be put into textures, but one of the
easiest ways to get realistic textures is to use image maps.  There are lots of
places online where you could download wood textures, etc.

Looking at what you have now, I think the wall is a bit thin compared to what
I'm used to, but then it may be realistic for other construction methods.

I have finished what may be called a Living Room.  Again, the floor is not
finalized, and there are still some improvements I know can be made.

I am going to try to use image_maps, as that is very promising for
photo-realism.  Also, for a bit of homage, this image uses a screencap from
Star Trek (my favorite TV show) on the Television.

Again, comments greatly appreciated.

That looks quite cool. Are both rooms in the same scene, and connected 
to each other, or are they currently independent rooms?

The Entire house has been programmed in one scene.  Everything is connected, and
there are hallways in between.

I did that so I could have an animated tour made for the house.  Unfortunately,
radiosity makes that kinda diffucult, as the project is due friday, and It's
taking several minutes per frame, for nearly 10000 frames.

I shall be posting more rooms tomorrow.  However, I have a lot of furniture to
work with.

I can help you with slow renders, but unfortunately my system might 
cause problems with radiosity... Could be worth a try anyway. Email me 
the sources as they are now (unfinished), and I'll try a few dozen 
frames. If it ends up working correctly, I could do the full render when 
you're done modeling.

Yeah, for an animation, you might have to skip the radiosity--or at least turn
it down to a pretty low quality.  If your frames are small enough, it won't
take that long.

remember that saving the radiosity file can help the speed a lot

Well, the radiosity version of the Living room FINALLY finished.  I've attatched
a copy of the new file, and do agree that it is much better.
