I hardly didn't post this test scene after seeing all those beautiful
pictures...
I made a simple interior with an Easter Egg.
It's my first scene here (besides the RSOACP), but don't have too much pity on
me. ^^
Tell me everything I have to improve (as I know, that this scene doesn't look
very *real*).
I didn't use any mesh (all CSGs, 6 image maps...).
There is a picture in the picture.
Can you find it? :-)

Regards

Your modelling is very good.
To remove the flatness (the trees look like they are not shaded) add
more light sources and decrease ambient
if you don't mind to wait (expect minutes to tens of minutes for the
final render) use radiosity. We'll aid you learn it if you need to.
Without radiosity a realism is nearly impossible for indoor scenes.
Good reflections can help a lot but your scene doesn't contain many
objects that could reflect (none at all, to be exact).
You've got a potential

Realism is over rated and content is more or less everything

And visual effect.
I like pointillism and that's not photo- realistic.

Bluetree:
As Jan said your modelling is good.
I don't like the shadow of the table so I would be tempted to try either making
the candle lights, no_shaddow or use Light Fading or a mixture of both. It is a
cheat, I know, but we can try to render what we want to see.
The rugs could use some more normals in their texture as could the floor.
A bit of reflection on the plant pots. You can use a different texture for the
inside by putting one texture on the difference group and one on the subtracting
object.
The carpet at the back and the cushions are too dark in my view try upping the
ambient until you get the lighting sorted out.

Seriously I wish my first interior had been as good. I like the placement of
objects in the room and the colour of the walls make a nice mood. There is a
story there.

Drat! I just read what nemesis said about the cat face. Ignore what I said about
the candle light. Did you mean that?

That's totally amazing to be your first.

You need better lighting though :)

Nothing really wrong with this image, you know. A first scene? Infinitely
better than my first ever!
Try radiosity, just the default values, and see where it gets you. You will
get help on the way.

The face in the middle is to obvious to be the hiden picture. No, it's hiden
behind the door ;-)
