in the club on crutches maybe, DAZ will crash at least once for every
export.

Because Daz is very unstable due to direxctx8.1:
I couldnt have done it without your help.
I would have never seen those materials you provided, nor created this:

kept poseRay light but dimmed rgb 1.6 to 0.5
the materials needed adjusting:
skin specular was looking like metallic robot: from 0.6 to 0.12
nails specular 1
skin ambient 0.88

had to post png on this one

I have had very few problems with Win98SE as long I dont do something stupid
like try and run directX 8.1. When I do run DX8 to access DAZ, word editors
fail to run, PoseRay fails to run, error a minute.

I got 4 drives to solve these kinds of issues.

No problems so far with PoseRay, So FlyerX and take down that part of
requirements that states, not tested on Win98SE, but that OS probably stops
at DX7. Or is it just my graphics card that is incompatible with DX8? DX8
replaced too many system files without regard for other apps. $MS would be
the most likely culprit.

also academic to note that MS does NOT support uninstallation of DX8, though
it can be done, I have done it with backup files.

I think, IIRC, when I upgraded my graphics card to a GeForce FX 5500, my
machine (win98) ran quite well with many less bsod's. I'm pretty sure DX9
came with it too. I remember not having a problem with PoseRay.

anyone want to try a beach scene, here's the girl for it. could be no less
than great. got some ideas for her. But realistic sand, water and waves,
there's a challenge.

Well, at least you are hobbling around :-)
But seriously, I think you got the idea and your renders are really fine,
and that is certainly rewarding.

I suppose that was mainly due to your use of OBJuvPOV which is an old
application, not updated since 2000, nor suited anymore for working with DAZ
or Poser figures.

Yes, mostly you have to tweak different material settings (mainly in the
finish section) in Poseray (or later on, in POV-Ray). This is also needed
when you use Poser like I do. FlyerX explained (I may misquote him here)
that this is mostly due to the very different approach used by both DAZ or
Poser to obtain certain effects, and those are difficult to translate
faithfully to POV-Ray. However, once you have got the feeling for it,
changing values becomes almost an automatism.

update for FlyerX:
PoseRay doesn't run while DAZ is running in any case, before or after OK.

Regarding win98SE and DAZ|Studio:
Geforce2 and DX8.1 very unstable.
Geforce4 MX-440SE and DX8.1 less crashing but more dialog layer failure than
before.

Geforce4 MX-440SE and DX9 most stable yet, dialog layer fixed.
Under these conditions PoseRay preview window is working now.

Thanks to steve (I think it was) who gave encouragement to install geforce4
and DX9 that has been laying around for years.

Love the flying Vicky! Good posture. You could put a giant mushroom
behing her now as if she's fairy-sized. :)

No probs, I had more or less the same setup as you and noticed a good
improvement when I changed my card from a GF2 to a 5500.

brain cells failed back then, forgot to add, and could be just me. The error
was: out of resources, of which DAZ must have used all.
