Thanks for the comments. If anyone is interested, I can post the flame for
fiddling with (I may have already done so a while back, can't really
recall)
The wax has a relatively uniform density (scattering media). I have fresnel
reflection set for it and it has a smooth surface which is tending to make
it look liquidy at the top I think. I suppose I could've either added some
roughness to the top, or maybe varied the media density to coincide with a
liquid/solid transition.

Another great CGSphere image, the wax is excellent and the flame looks very
realistic. Also, I like the way you have given a slight glow to the end of
the wick it is something I would not have thought of but makes the effect
very realistic.

Hi,
a really beautiful picture, very impressive.
Just a minor question: what's the meaning of that chinese character ??
It seems not to belong to the roughly 2000 most important kanji in my
dictionary :-)
Thank you
Karl

Thanks.
Actually, by this time I had forgotten what it meant (I started this one
maybe a couple months ago). Luckily the image map I used for it still had
the name: "prosperity"

Nifty! I'm going to sign up for the CGSphere site just so I can vote for it.
(- and so I can get around to creating a submission.) The contrast between
the bit of blue in the flame and the rest of the well chosen subtle color
palette is truly eye-catching. I for "two" would love to see the code for
the flame. Kudos.
Regards,
Mike C.
P.S. "barberofcivil" is a great handle

Thanks. I just posted the flame source this morning in text.scene-files.
barberofcivil was a bit of an in-joke for myself, being a civil engineer.
