Yep. That's media alright. I think its a synonym for frustration. The
cloud looks great. The rain shaft underneath looks wonderful. When
you're satisfied, I'd love to see the code for this.
I've been doodling a bit with sunrise/sunset animations, and I still
haven't reached what I consider satisfactory results. I started the
sunrise animation project some time in June of last year, and I still
have yet to produce a satisfactory animation. Not only that, but also,
when each frame takes 1/4 of an hour... it takes forever to get the
frames back.

This is really beginning to look great. The rotated rain looks much better,
and the nice big juicy cloud looks good.
All of your clouds have had this great look, almost painted, like you get
around sunset when it's raining far away. It gives it an artistic quality.
I would call it an example of WHY to use 3D graphics. It's just got that
touch of idealism that, IMO, makes it work.
Really nice.

I like it! How fast did this image render, something worth considering for
future images... :-)
BTW, is the sunlight colored? The rain looks a bit strange, being that
color. But maybe it's just that I don't visualize it properly, don't get to
see distant rain that often to check for such things and make mental notes
for raytracing (you know, like all of us Povers do: "Hm, that looks nice!
Probably a bozo-pattern, layered with a little fresnel reflection..." :-)

Very dramatic, beautiful clouds! Striking!
This would make a wonderful print all by itself.
FWIW, I remember distant rain seems to curve more as it
nears the ground, maybe because the drops are smaller?
The straight line rain caught my eye as unnatural, but I'm
not sure.
Also, rain usually appears darker, I guess because it's drops
of water, not vapor.

I'd rather say because the drops get moved by wind and the further down you
get, the further they have been moved from their original path.
2 cents. :-)

As often seen from below a cloud...
The rain seems to disappear as you look down upon it, yet from below it is
very visible. Canopy defrost cleared this up.

Do you know police can stop your plane for taking photographs while driving?

Well, actually, that's algebra... :-)
Still, those links explain a more or less accurate particle system to create
raindrops, e.g. terminal velocity (the velocity after which air resistance
stops the raindrop from getting any faster) in relation to it's size,
gravity in relation to it's mass, etc. What Tim is doing here though is
completely different and thus the formulae aren't really applicable (always
wanted to use that word with sense :-).
Still, if he'd switch to a function, it might be possible to transform the
pattern for the rain-media to look slightly curved... (Just hinting at
something, won't dive deeper into this...)
Regards,
Tim
