Hello.

A while ago I posted a CSG robot model I was making. Other commitments
forced me to abandon the little fella for a few weeks, but I was able to get
stuck in again over the weekend and here's the current version. Still to
add - pelvis, legs, claws, big power cables (the thing on his back is
supposed to be a power pack) and other little odds and ends.

Comments would be very much appreciated as working in isolation can play
tricks with your mind.  Nnnnnngggg....

Many thanks,
Alan.

If the rest of the robot ends up looking as cool as what you have so far, it
will look awesome.
It appears that you have put a LOT of quality work into this.....

i like it a lot. once i do a few more star wars models i'm going to
move on to my own creations. i especially like the attention to
detail. if you don't mind, what did you use for the texture on the
shiny part that joins the shoulder to the body? it seems to have
properties i'm looking for for r2d2's aluminum head. you didn't use
radiosity though did you? i usually do and that tends to wash out
shininess a bit. i've asked for texture help before but without
responce. help me alan-wan-kenobi. you're my only hope.

As I'm not sure which shiny bit you mean, here's both the bluish one:

#declare txt_robot_supports=texture {
  pigment {rgb <0.3,0.3,0.425>}
  finish {specular 0.5 roughness 0.1 phong 0.25 phong_size 2 ambient 0.05
diffuse 0.5 metallic brilliance 1.2}
  normal {crackle 0.75 scale 0.010}
}

and the reddish one:

#declare txt_robot_red_supports=texture {
  pigment {rgb <53,35,25>/255}
  finish {specular 0.5 roughness 0.1 ambient 0.05 diffuse 0.5 brilliance 1}
  normal {crackle 0.5 scale 0.005}
}

No radiosity used, I'm afraid - I can never get it working properly. The
images were rendered using MegaPOV 0.5a, if that makes a difference.

Bye,
Alan.

This looks really promising!! The only thing I can think of is the metal texture
for the head and body looks a little too grainy inn my opinion. I like the
attention to detail, esp the warning label, and the LED's!

Light sources are too intense. The red and blue ones shouldn't be able to
make a white, imo.
This is a fabulous project so far.

Texturing is  PERFECT.

Construction is reminiscent of a 1970's Disney movie, The Black Hole. Don't know
if that's a put-down or your exact intention.

Not a put down at all. That robot (I think it was called Maximillion?)
scared the bejesus out of me when I first saw that film as a nipper. I
didn't set out to copy the design of the eye scanner thing, it just seemed
the right thing to do (or 'the easiest thing to model').

Bye,
Alan.

This has come along nicely. I love some of those textures.
