You referred to my post as a "sign of stupidity", I take that as being directed
at me.

No you didn't: you said I was taking credit for your work, which I wasn't.

In his defence I think IMBJR's referring specifically to how people conduct
themselves when posting on this newsgroup, and he is not implying this extends
to how intelligent these people are in general.

That's like saying im lemon when it comes to tact, or fishburger, or
housetree or coupon when it comes to tact. Meaningless!

Well, tact does require intelligence. Ergo saying "you're stupid when it comes
to tact", whilst grammatically a little odd, is a perfectly meaningful
statement. Personally I'd use the word "bad" or possibly simplify the whole
thing to be "tactless", but the meaning is still clear.

Well I've downloaded Irfanview. So I've seen the pictures. And I now have an
opinion on them:
Trying to be tactful... let's just say that the choice of compression methods is
unlikely to significantly lower the quality of these images...

No, just blind following of some social pattern. No intelligence
required in that.

LOL

I hope that was as honest as you can be. I can imagine a little bias
may have crept in, esp' if you are using so-called tact.

Heh, that reminds me of Good Will Hunting when, after his new girlfriend
asked him out for coffee. He responded that we could just go out for
caramels because it was just as arbitrary :-)

True. We all have to look at things objectively as well as subjectively and
seek to understand first before we judge. One of the things that really
annoy me is when somebody proves some thing right and then extrapolates to
say it proves everything else right. Just as an example (and for no other
reasons but being an example), let's say that a particular event in the book
of Revelations in the bible happens. Some would then say, "See, see that
proves the entire Bible is correct!" That is a falacious argument. It would
be like saying, "Because IMBJR has poor tact at this time in his life, his
work isn't good either." That would be unfair and, as IMBJR said, "stupid".
Some of the greatest men in history would really piss us off if we met them
in person. :-)
