I try not to install software I don't need. So could someone give an honest
opinion as to whether these pictures are good enough to justify downloading a
viewer?

There seem to have been 3 conversations about JPEG2000 and nobody's yet said if
the pictures are any good! :)

Honest? Dear me - that's impossible. How can one be honest about such
things?

And ...

Can you really expect honesty from these people after I have had to
deal with them?

There will even less chance of objectivity now.

Well I like them - they are nothing special though. Merely experiments
with isosurfaces that I had to satisfy myself with and one involving a
Poser model slice up.

As for getting a viewer that supports it, of course I would suggest
yes - get one. But if you feel happier about not doing so because of
your software-installation policy, then go with what makes you happy.
No one's forcing you do get this facility - it's merely a "suggested
serving".

Well I'm talking to the ones who've actually bothered downloading the viewer, so
they're probably not biased against you ;)

Absolutely, I appreciate the suggestion. I tend to only install stuff if I know
I want it for some purpose, so if I start finding more jp2 files I'm sure I'll
get something that can handle them.

Look guys, it took *zilch* time for Irfanview to load this image
once the file extension was associated with my newsreader (OE). I
really don't see the problem here. Try it for yourselves and see. You
just click the filename in the attachment of the post, hit "open it"
as per normal, and bingo, image.

You don't use Irfanview?? I'm surprised Tek. See my other post.

I appreciate the work that goes into them.

Unless Irfanview is available for linux (Hint: It isn't) I *DO* see a
problem.

Yes, I knew this when I posted. I'm addressing the 'many' IE users
here.

Well, call me lazy, but I find scrolling the window in Outlook Express is easier
than using another piece of software to view images.

No seriously, call me lazy, everyone else does. :)

heh, thank you for that considered and informative opinion. ;)
