The recent asteroid city pictures posted here made me
think of a different concept for an asteroid city.
Buildings have not been detailed yet. The asteroid is
an isosurface. The planet still need wowrk: I might
even take the planet out.

Out of curiosity, what are the specs for the atmosphere? I like that color.

One thing you might try with the planet is making it look as uninhabitable
as possible (perhaps some craters, plus less blue and less air), which would
explain why its inhabitants are pushing asteroids into orbit around it and
building cities there.

I think they're building cities on asteroids because they have a
penchant for microgravity :)

Here's a suggestion: Don't share axes for the different buildings --
they would have been placed where convenient (hence cadiwumpus to
each other).

Unless the buildings have extensive "basements" of passageways and such that
go into and throughout the asteroid. In that case, the most convenient
arrangement (or at least the one least likely to drive people crazy) would
be to have all parts of the structure on roughly the same axes.

Actually, I read a series of books by Kim Stanley Robinson called "Red
Mars", in which they thrust an asteroid into orbit, and use it to construct
an orbital tether, which elevators ride up and down from orbit to lower the
cost of resupply.

This asteroid looks perfect for that kind of orbital tether.
