This drops on hollow glass sphere is layered texture. It seems to me that they are
very realistic, I like this texture and want to share it. If anybody wants, I'll post
sources.
The floor texture is simple combination of perpendicular gradients and cells pattern
-- not so interesting as drops, but funny too.
 Hope you like it.
 Sincerely Yours, Alex Kluchikov.

Like you said, it's very realistic, and I like it a lot. It makes me think
of the texture that Tek made on one of is VERY beautiful render (all of is
renders are great btw). You can find it on is web site:
http://www.evilsuperbrain.com in the Finished section. The image is right
here:

Of course, as usual, you can post the source, so I'll be able to grab it! I
always learn from your creation. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Ciao!

Mart

Love it! But after looking at it for a while it can also look like a
metallic sphere with pits. What happens if the sphere is not reflective?

Thanks for sharing.

Very nice! I've seen something similar before, 1 or 2 years back in this
newsgroup. Was that you too?

But I think, the picture looks like there are holes in the sphere. Is it
realistic?

Regards,
Hugo

I too agree with this. I opened the image without reading its
description and I got the impression of 'pits' in the sphere. I think it
might be something with the refractive index setting. When you look at
the droplets towards the outside of the sphere, the outside edge of the
droplet is bright and the near side is dark. Should this be the other
way around?

It is one of those weird optical illusions I think. When I first read the
title and looked at the image I saw a sphere with dropplets of water. When
I read your post and went back to the picture I saw a pitted sphere. Very
weird.

Dave

Same for me... maybe decreasing fade_power / increasing fade_distance would
help ?

Hmmm... People, this effect is only the fake! There is no drop objects in
scene - all impression of water drops on wet surface is bump - mapped
second layer on texture. So, drops can not be reflected, have no interior
and cast no shadow. And you are right, sometimes they looks like a pits or
even holes. But I am not sure if it is possible to make fully realistic
drops using layered texture or some other fake method.
I have other drops sample, on the non-reflective and non-transparent
sphere. Look in p.b.s.-f. for sources.

 Sincerely yours, Alex Kluchikov.

Ahhh, I see said the blind man! Very clever indeed. I've been wanting to do
something like this for ages, but trying to render thousands of water blobs on a
reflective surface took forever. Nice job!
