Sounds familiar :-)

Heh, I don't :p. Nothing against flying itself, but all the hassle
around it and the airline's customer fuck up'ing is a pain in the ass.
And most of the airplanes used on short (in-european) flights are
horrous. A new Airbus A321 costs 107,3 million dollars and still it's
creaking and sqeaking all the time from somewhere and the seats are
probably desinged by Volkswagens economy-team.

That is certainly true, although I might get a faster laptop at some
point (and 3.7 or newer POV). It leads to the need to also ease up the
scene so I'll still be able to enchance the scene and trace the image in
the air.

We should have listened to our ancestors: man is not made for flying ;-)

Yep, and a good thing too. As said, looking forward to that.

Wow, I thought it was pretty non-memorable. In fact I was shocked that
it was almost 10 years ago - time flies :-)

If you had asked me point blank, I would not have remembered it, but the
combination image and altitude triggered the neurons ;-)

You know you have been raytracing for too long...
...when you buy a laptop just to raytrace while travelling!
Yes, if I was more of a globetrotter, the notion of always having a
(POWERFUL, i. e. multi-core with at least 16 GiB, of course running
under good old XP Professional (not nowadays' wannabe-smartphone OSs!),
if not under Linux) laptop with me feels tempting... just imagine me
venturing into the valleys of the Wakhan corridor, with one or two
donkeys carrying my terrain surveying, raytracing and solar power
equipment, and then doing live in-situ POVghanistan!
See you in Khyberspace!

I used to be in my old job and never looked back since getting a new
job. There is nothing fun about carrying around a heavy laptop with a
power brick the size and weight of a real brick. Yes you can run POV or
play the latest games on it (and burn your legs in the process), but
whilst actually travelling (as in on a plane or train or whatever) I
found it far more fun/relaxing to look out the window or watch the guy
in the next row edit his power point.

So I haven't been raytracing too long, possibly even not enough. When
travelling I'm carrying/using my lighter work-laptop. It's 2-3 years old
and small and light enough to carry in a backpack through the world. As
scott mentioned, carrying a almost-portable workstation is pain in the ass.

I am with you on that, 100%

I read ebooks on a small tablet.

I don't know if I should feel sad for them because they are so
overworked. Or feel irritated because they are so important that they
have to work all the time.
I wish I knew who coined the phrase "death by Power Point".
