Yup - that's a sure-fired way to mess up radiosity.

That might indeed help speed up the radiosity pass; However, I'd
recommend to just use very low subsurface sample counts.

Maybe but not that much different.
On reflection <groan> I think that the first time I looked at it I did
not know what I was looking at. When I looked at it again I did and saw
it differently. It is said that you can only see what you already have
seen. Personally, I think that it is the lack of drugs.

It is not that obvious, to me.

OK here's the final version ... lowering samples in subsurface globals
shaved 4.5 hrs off the render time.

Lovely.

Forgot to ask: Excellent flame media; I seem to remember this to be in
the Scenes folder but I don't see it there. Is this Trevor Quayle's code
perhaps?

Yes it is ... with some modifications. Removed projected_through as it
was causing an unwanted shadow. I also removed the sphere that contained
the media that produced a yellow halo effect, and played around with the
area_light size because I wanted more "fuzzy" edges on the shadows that
were close to the light source ... I had to go to my backups to get it,
because I've not used it in a while, but the original code can be found
here:

Currently listening to Hein Braat singing the "Aakhan Jor" mantra - the
image fits nicely.

Thanks indeed Jim. I must already have the original code in my POV-Ray
Treasure Chest :-) I shall dig it out and play a bit with it.
