This is a WIP scene that has remained in limbo for up to a year. In the mean
time, I had discussions about radiosity with Hildur Kolbrun, and now
recently through the work of Clipka the radiosity issue is alive again.
I decided to rerender the scene with what I had learned. This is the result.
I am rather satisfied, especially when compared with older renders. Lighting
is provided by an area_light and the ambient setting of the diffuser screen
below the ceiling. WinXP with MegaPov.
The radiosity settings used:
radiosity {
#if (MPov)
adaptive 1
#end
brightness 1.0
count 100
error_bound 0.15
gray_threshold 0.0
low_error_factor 0.2
minimum_reuse 0.015
nearest_count 10
recursion_limit 1
adc_bailout 0.005
max_sample 0.5
media off
normal off
always_sample 1
pretrace_start 0.08
pretrace_end 0.005
}

I will add "randomize on" there... works nicely for some artefacts.
BTW, if the rust on the mirror are artefacts, I must say you placed them
very well! ;)

Excellent. forgot that.

Yeah... The art of placing these artefacts has been learned at great cost
:-)

How long would it take if you replaced the picture on the wall with another
mirror?

Very good! Except for the black splotches in the mirror, of course. But that
is about to end, I guess...

Hmm. I have done some Infinity Box scenes in the past, longer than a
*normal* render of course, but I don't remember how much longer. See old
examples here.

the black splotches in the mirror are *not* artefacts! They are supposed to
show the age of the mirror. I used a boxed pattern to achieve them...
However, interesting that you saw them as artefacts :-) What the render
needs of course, is a better aa, especially for the wood pattern of the
mirror frame.

Hmm, come to think of it, if it was radiosity splotches due to reflection they
would be pretty much all around... Well done, then! That's attention to detail
far exceeding what I'd expect from CG: it's all to easy to forget mirrors do
age and are not perfect specular reflectors... :P

In addition, the color is somewhat attenuated too.
