Well, are you going to tell us the technique? Is the scene lighted with 
an area_light, or with a bright object? Is this technique part of a 
patch you've been working on? Inquiring minds want to know!

I'd like to see a more obvious demonstration, if you have time. An 
object brighter in color perhaps, with more contrast between lit and 
shadowed areas. Can this technique be optimized to render faster? (of 
course it can, they always can :)

It is based on a patch in progress
(http://pagesperso-orange.fr/fidos/MCPov/MCPov.html). The lighting come from
the sphere and a hdr picture (good feature of MegaPov).

The rendering was not too long, 'only' 4 hours on 4 cores of a q6600 !

Um, *only* 4 hours? Yikes! It's probably worth it though, considering 
the potential quality of the render. I have that same CPU setup; I'll 
have to see if my results resemble yours.

Just downloaded that and gave it a shot - it's brilliant!  After just a few 
hours I got a perfectly smooth version of a scene that was causing a huge 
amount of problems with radiosity (bright artifacts, blotchiness etc).

I really hope something like this makes it into the official POV very soon.
