Yes, I was lazy and didn't try to find a better random seed...

With so many reflective/refractive drops all over the scene, it gets very
slow when using focal blur... but I will try, so I will have an excuse to
use XRS again with the two dual core machines.

:) ...not really: I only lost the rain code, so the rewrite is not that
hard.

Yes, the splash is half a torus with a tricky texture (see the attached
pic) Is one of these strange ideas you get from nowhere...

The localized streaks are just manually placed, but they used trace to
detect surfaces below, to place splashes too...

Yes, you're right. And I tried it, but with fog the effect was too fake,
and media seems like too much load for an already slow render... :(

You mean respect to the sky lighting? I had a hard time deciding the
appropriate balance between realistic/artistic effect...

Or did you mean the lamps should each have a different intensity? That's
an interesting idea, and something I didn't try before... thanks!

Yes thaht's it. I think different power on the lamps would give more depth
in the scene.

That looks kinda neat. It could maybe be used as some sort of crown, don't you think?

VERY clever! I wouldn't have thought of that. Thanks for posting the test
image of it.

Any chance that we could see the scene with a bit less jpeg compression
on it? I'd like to see a little more detail. :-)

Very artistic.

You know you've been raytracing too long when you look up at the sky and
think "Hey, nice smooth color gradient, that must be 32-bit color at least."
