Thank you Marc.

But that's because they're real emeralds... If only I can get it right
in PoV ... ;)

Heh... Oh, I wish...! :o)
(I'd love to see where they make them, and what they do to make them).

Neato...
I think the real thing is more pleasing to the eye than the simulation.
OTOH, the sim isn't that bad either... ;-)

I agree

Indeed but you'd have to have a virtual finger to wear it ;-)

No problem - I'll give it to my virtual girlfriend. :-$ (It would look
silly on my anyway...)

That's nice, Steve. Do you find there is any interplay between the act
of modelling the decorations in mesh and modelling them in real life?

Thanks Jim. Well, for me, no. I'm one of those designers that can
visualise a design, and then go ahead and make what I 'see' in my head. By
this, I mean that I very rarely draw a design, and then make it. Sad really,
as I was (hopefully!) a good line/shade artist with pencil/charcoal, etc.
when I was younger - I just don't do it now, (even for pleasure, where at
one stage, that was all I did), but since I bought one of these damn
comp's... ;) all I do now, is play with 3D. It's strange really, as I
never envisaged owning a computer - ever. Now I have one, (my first one),
that's sat beside me on the floor doing nothing, and a new monster black
tower thingy humming away in front of me. So I own two. And, you know, it's
really not 'me', but I love the challenge of a computer, and I think you
know where I'm coming from with this.
I digress. As for your original question Jim, making a 3D image just cant
compare with making the 'real thing'. There're too many physical procedures
to go through to complete a ring, (item), and then be satisfied with the
result/s compared to the 3D image.

First, find the best possible colour and apply it as fade_color to the interior,
not the surface.
Then...
Try changing fade_distance to a smaller value until it's OK. Also, having the
right ior and dispersion helps.

Thanks Alain, I'll give that a try now that I'm near finishing my IRTC
image.
