actually thinking about it, the coils on mine are composed of about 2 or
3 turns parallel sided, then it goes conical from about 5 turns

how many lights, 3 ?
maybe dim the high intensity one, and move it to reduce the glare off
the tile ?

Seeing the title, it hit me for the first time: Allen Keys, homonym for
Alan Keyes, the black conservative Catholic who ran for the Republican
presidential nomination in 1996 and 2000. Hmmmm.

Anyway, very nice image.

Is it just the parallel coils that are holding the keys? I haven't
got any here at the moment, so these were from memory.

One area light and one point light set at rgb <.8, .8, .8>. I was
trying to see if the point light might 'grey' the keys a little more.

Yes, I wasn't sure if I should keep that or not, but then, I'm sure
I've seen an example of this in RL. I'll re-render, and move it around
a little.

Heh, yeah, I think it's because I'm forever polishing metal. I'll
reduce the bumps.

definely an over-intense glare

Nice wrenches. The tiles seem a bit thin. I'll bat digging up some of
JVP's lighting code and rerendering this would complete the project.

The floor pigment is really interesting.

Thanks. Have a go with Wings. Make a simple tile and see if you
can add a stone or wood texture to it so that it looks like stone or
wood. If you can, please let me know how. ;)

No no no. The pattern you have *now* is nice! I would like to
know how the pattern was done. I would guess you started with
a crackle but aside from that I can't figure it out.

"You take the left tile and it's a Wings tile. You take the right
tile and it's a Pov tile."

Heh... Ok, as much as I like Wings for modeling, it's not good
at showing textures with any striation or grain effect in it - a wood
grain, a stone texture, etc.

The texture and finish for both of these simple tiles is:

        texture{
         T_Stone19
        finish { reflection .03}}

And that's it. There's no scaling, rotation, nothing else to make
this happen. The reason that the tiles in my original image have a
pattern to it is because I left the 'edge' lines on the tile, (see
second image).

I had the same trouble when I modeled my lock-knife with Wings. If
you didn't see that thread, here it is:
