So, this is a hat I've made out of primitives
for the worm. I was going for those
sailor-/winter-type hats to keep his bare little
head warm.
Still this one looks too much like rubber,
and I'm also thinking that the modelling is
too... mathematical. My next go will be with
a lathe-type mesh + deformations, to see if
that'll be any better. Any other suggestions?

In the navy, this was called a Watch Cap. I think it is a good choice for
the worm. It will give him a kind of blue collar look. I like the double
brim design you have made for it.

Keep up the great work, you are one of the inspiring artists I see
supporting this community.

Thanks for the comment! I'll see if I can keep
the double-brim design if you like it so much for
the mesh version. The mesh would have the
advantage of UV-Mapping and possibility for
displacement mapping, which is why I intend
to go that way.

And thanks for the praise! One could argue
if I'm that inspiring, I don't turn many scenes
out, but I'm especial thankful for the "supporting
this community" part. I've found that the news-
groups have always answered my questions and
helped me evolve further with my image-attempts,
and there's no reason why I shouldn't pay it
back! :-)

First is CSG, second is Mesh made with my BSplines
and Mesh-Modifying-Macros.

On the mesh, I plan to uv-map a bump-map which
looks like its stitched, if thats the word... You know,
wool and such. Made by grandma. Something like
that. If anyone has a suitable bump-map for that,
I'd like the link...

Ah well. Aside of some minor issues with the hat
and the UV-mapping, I think this'll be the final
hat for him. My brother says its a little too big,
but I think it makes the character warmer. More
of a comfy guy. :-)

but the texture is still the plastic texture from
before. I'll work on that later.

Why do you think that? Is the hat too broad?
I'd rather take a mesh, as it has some advantages
for mapping and deformations (e.g. wind, though
this would only be a factor if the hat isn't too
tight around his head).
What I'm actually going for: it's supposed to be
some "regular" worm, nothing special. E.g. a
worker-worm would have one of those hard-plastic
hats. Still, the worm should be some sort of lazy
guy, not too cleanly dressed, stuff not 100% fitting,
thus the slightly too large hat.

This is the one that I like the most. I do not how to say it, but I think 
the worm looks more like a cool guy with this hat. With the mesh version, 
the worm looks more like an older, more serious man, a salesman or something 
like this.

I'm not very good when it's time to choose color for my own models, so 
imagine for others.... But to be honnest, I like the color you choose, It 
makes a good contrast.

Great work. 
I like the first hat better.
Perhaps a draker blue (navy) would fit better.

the CSG version.
