Hello, all.

Currently updating an old image (original here:
http://news.povray.org/povray.binaries.images/19166/).

Any comments?

Ta,
Alan.

My opinions:

First of all, I love the expressions on those dudes. Your models are
really well done and their humor really comes through. I also think the
lighting and textures are impressive. That brick wall looks *great*.

Things I'd change:
- I'd saturate the color of the bricks more and redden them a bit.
(Maybe it's just my monitor, but I doubt it.)
- I'd fill in the missing bricks or put holes in the mortar where the
bricks are supposed to be. Brick walls with missing bricks have holes.
- I'd make the guy in the middle look like he is ready to catch the
ball or has just passed it to someone else. To me, anyway, he looks a
bit confused about the ball, like he's never seen one before or isn't
sure what to do with it.
- You might want to make the shadows sharper. Sunlight shadows aren't
perfectly sharp but I think they might be sharper than what you have.

The whole thing looks like a scaled-down version of some original,
which is okay, in my opinion. I'm just pointing it out because it
often isn't the intended effect.

Yeah... that barrel looks fantastic! Oh, and so does the rest of the scene.

Problem maybe... The placements of the characters and basketball don't seem
to be right. Well, for the guy in the middle it does. Looks as if the guy on
the right is too far back. Guy on left seems okay if he is going for the
head of the middle guy ;-)

I don't remember ever seeing that other rendering. The sign could be toned
down a little I guess, it's blindingly white to me. Intense sunlight is
there I suppose. Now that I think about it I wonder if those shadows are too
light as well. It probably depends on whether this is seen firsthand or
photo of it is intended.

Hi, Bob.

The barrel? A cylinder, four torii and a disc. Slap on a few rusty image maps
(thanks to NewTek and Jeremy A. Englemen) and - viola!

The dude on the left is indeed going for a ninja spine splash.

You're right about the dude on the right. May re-pose him.

The lighting definitely needs tweaking. Been doing some tests with regular and
HDR radiosity, but still to find the high-contrast glaring sunlight look I'm
after. Could do it using post-processing, but that would be cheating.

Thanks for your comments!

Alan.

This has been updated, but I'm sick of working on this image (just like at
work where I've been developing one document for the past six weeks - gah!)
so I'm going to stop development for a bit and do something else.
