The hull has been modelled with Hamapatch.
First I tried to do it all by myself, but coudn't
get the right shape.
So I went to http://www.suurland.com/
in search of blueprints that I could use in Hamapatch
(using background image feature) to ease modelling
work and get the right size of the model.
I also found other blueprints at:
http://www.compumarine.com/
I made the hull following a blueprint, and when I got
a boat hull shape, I modified it so it fitted more with
what I think would be the shape of an antique boat
(Leonardo was born in the XV century).
Then I exported the hull model to .mdl (Moray)
and I scaled it to fit the paddle wheels' mechanism
(that is CSG).

If you want the construction to look a little more traditional, you could
take a look at this URL:
http://www.cullisonsmallcraft.com/skylarkpage.htm
Notice the overlapping planks and the narrow frames inside. Do a search
for "lapstrake"
for more examples. Of course, you'd have to generate the hull a different
way, probably.
For a modern edge-glued stripper version, look here:
http://www.compumarine.com
If you changed your texture you could make it look like strips.

First, thanks for the link.
I think I'm gonna leave the hull as it is.
Surely I'll go for a "overlapping planks" look, but, as it is made
with hamapatch, I can end with an uv-mapped mesh with bump
maps for that..

Been there.

That's what I'm gonna do. Thanks for your comments.

Nice design and colors. The front needs a lot more detail, but I'm sure
you've got that planned already.

What's the gear ratio? To me, it looks impossible to operate at a
comfortable RPM, especially if you start from rest.

From www.museoscienza.org\english\leonardo\barca.htm
"Leonardo envisaged the driving paddle wheels of a boat being about 90 cm
long. The wheels intended to magnify the oarsmen's strength were designed as
being about 60 cm in diameter, and fitted with 16 cogs that engaged with a
sprocket wheel of about 15 cm in diameter fitted with 12 cogs. According to
Leonardo's calculations - leaving aside all mechanical and nautical
difficulties -, with a driving wheel making 50 rpm the boat would have
sailed at 50 miles per hour."
Hope this helps ;-)
PS: It's obvious that Leonardo was an optimist.

Lol he was indeed :)
mmm let's see if we can let aside some others little but ennoying
difficulties: eeeeeeer gravity? time arrow? light speed limit?
Leonardo, come back we need your help!!!!
