Still the same model by Ib Rasmussen (with a image map instead of procedural
mapping), and otherwise identical the previous image (Xfrog trees, DAZ girl,
Rhino bike, free car), but this time using a HDR map, to see if the
technique is applicable to outdoor scenes, in this case a cloudy one. I
guess it is :-)

I guess, in this case you could also have used an ordinary 24 bit image, or
even 8 bit, for the clouds with the same result. I don't think HDR does
anything important here. You have "just" setup the scene better than Ib.

The darker reflections are from real objects, and the sky is bright so the
possible constrasts in HDR, isn't used.. If there IS a dark horisont in the
HDR image, you could probably easily replace it with a textured plane or a
little heightfield..

That feels about right, but for the scale of the leaves (on the trees near
the tower) and their finish. Shouldn't some light be transmitted through
them?
The tower is very clean, I would expect some weathering and water streaks.

There are shadows, only they're very blurry... as in real life on a cloudy
day.

Well yes you're right here, the regular JPG works good too in this case.
Hey, that's what tests are for, aren't they :-)
In any case I now have a nice collection of environment maps to play with.
I'll try to make HDR maps with Terragen too, since it has an "exposure"
feature.

The bike and the biker need more than shadow. They just look like
a poser character/computer render graphic added over a real 
image/photograph.
