I'm really just a newbie to this newsgroup. I've dabbled with POV-Ray for
quite a while but I never got serious. I guess you could say I know a
significant amount about POV-Ray but not a whole lot about composition. So
here's my first newsgroup post. This image needs something but I'm not sure
what. Any comments?

I like the object! Maybe putting it in a different environment will be an
improvement, but that's just my own taste....

Welcome to the group. I really like the object. looks very cool. I agree
that a different environment would help. maybe its a strange artifiact
hovering above some forgotten shrine in the middle of some nowhere forest.

HOLY MOTHER OF PEARL! ;) Heh, nice! I think 'abstract' goes down
well in here, and this is a nice abstract.

Welcome aboard the good ship PoV.

Actually, I like the floor you have there. It tends to blur out in a way;
whether from image file compression, the double layer caused by
transparency, or combination of both things. Makes the frosted donut thing
stand out. I don't know what to make of that object, it looks either
metallic or something like a wet fungus. Is it a dual iso which has the
outer part scaled larger and with noise added?

I think you should loose the hex floor - perhaps use a checker instead, and
make the torus thingy more spherical - this would be in keeping with the
mandatory first post protocols.

The floor does look sharper in the original .bmp file. For some reason
it looks fuzzy even in a .png; I thought PNG compression was supposed to
be lossless. Anyway, it's just a transparent hex over a plane with
reflection set to 1.

You guessed right: the frosted donut thing is a dual isometric. I didn't
need to scale the noisy part, though, because the addition of noise made
some parts skinnier and some parts fatter.

Interestingly, the "frosting" looked metallic with radiosity off. Maybe
it looks more pearly now because it has the default roughness value? I
think so, but I can't test it now because I overwrote the source file
with something new.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!

Rather looks like something is eating away at the torus. Like acid.
