How about unchecking the "use limits" option in the figure menu of Poser 4.
The problem is not the posing, the problem is the deformation to the body
geometrie with more extreme poses.

The problem is the deformation zones. a) they're not accurate and b)
they remain constant relative to the large groups of triangles they're
attached to and c) there aren't enough ot them for (b) to behave
properly. See attached image, which I sent in query to the Curious
Labs technical support.

Have a look for yourself.
Judy, just moved her arm and shoulder a little.
With some fine tuning and post work this could
be done much better but also with P4. The new
thing is, by using the setup room you can modify
the joint parameters and the "bones" in a much
more comfortable way as with P4 but I think for
the default female model they are already set in
the best possible way. But who knows what is
possible with a software where 14 days after
official reease the first major service pack is
available.
But I have still to play a little more with it...

The clavicle hasn't moved at all, only distorted a little. Make
the clavicle move.

Sorry, I'm goin' out for a beer right now. No much need
to move my clavicle.
But I will play a little more with Judy tomorrow...

Er wait, ignore that...you can use just your forearm.
Can't lift yer beer bottle over your head to smash on your
neighbour's skull without moving your clavicle...yeah.
