I actually like your place holder--probably much more than a figure.
Nice feel to the image.

I'd say leave it just the way it is, no need for a character to be
added. Nice work.

I don't mean to be rude, but my mum's an abstract artist so I know what abstract
means! My image isn't meant to be abstract, it's my interpretation of my mum's
abstract painting. sorry for any ambiguity :)

I know exactly what you mean. I'm going to try to design a figure based around
the fractal object, but if it doesn't work out I might return to this one
because it definitely has something I like :)

:) thanks. The only reason I think I should try to develop it is because:
"The July-August 2002 stills round deadline is in 56 days, 8 hours, 12 minutes,
and 7 seconds"
So I have 8 weeks to play with it before entering! Though after your comments
I'm going to keep this image, and develop a new one based on this (rather than
just throwing this one away as a WIP).
Cheers

I like the julia fractal too, how about an area light on that one? I'd work
a bit more on the ground, "bend" the horizon, add some dunes, mountains?
It's a planet surface? Right now it looks like a box ;) The planets in the
background looks great! Maybe add a bit more "glow" around them?
Nice work!

That is a *really* cool pic. I don't know if you have Poser or not, but
to me for some reason there ought to be a small person standing to
the lower left of the rock (fractal). Maybe reaching out towards it,
though the person I'd originally envisioned would be too small to reach
-- about a third as tall as the distance between rock and ground.
Sorry to ramble -- hope you were able to catch all that. Still, very
cool! :-)

Hehe :) the planet in the foreground is identical to the planets in the
background! They're exactly the same, including the atmosphere (yup the
whole red sky is identical to the "glows" on the other planets). The horizon
doesn't appear bent for exactly the same reason that the horizon of the
earth doesn't appear bent: we're too close to the surface to see the curve.

Hmm... that's an interesting idea, I like it. Though it's not really
connected to the loneliness topic.
BTW, I have a rather different sense of the scale of the image than what
you've suggested. I've developed the image a bit further now, and that
"rock" has become a human figure. I'll post a new version when I've taken it
a bit further.
Cheers
