interesting, why do you think, it's a spotlight?
I see currently no argument to state that ... I'm interested
in the details, why you think it is one ...

If you look at the back wall and the ceiling, it seems round with a defined
edge? Ignore the light falling on the statue, and just look at the brightest
light on the back wall/ceiling.

Of course, the same effect could be achieved by placing the pointlight on the
other side of a round window.

I don't think, this is the shape of a spotlight, what you mean.
I also see this, but this can be achieved by the use of normal
pointlights.

BTW: here's my recent (fast) try ...

I can create this shape of the light quite good ...

it's a pity, that the rest of the room doesn't nearly look
as I want it to ...

Ah - of course, I'd forgotten about the fade power. I'd still be tempted to
try putting the light around the corner so that only diffuse lighting hits
the statue... (assuming you haven't already done that).

nope, I've not done that, but you can see in the orig, that
the statue and big parts of the floor are directly illuminated
by the lightsource, because there's one sharp shadow for each
object. I don't believe, that brazil is that good, that it can
produce such sharp shadows with such a rendertime ...

Yep - the thought had occured. I even wondered if the sharp shadows might be
an indication of a brazil weakness - sharp shadows from such a diffuse light
should be a no-no.

Well, if it's not diffuse lighting, then it looks like a really high, weird,
fade-power.

In POV-Ray, even a spotlight is technically a point light of sorts; the
light emanates from a single point, not from a diffuse surface or array
of points or something like that. Instead of trying to figure out how to
emulate the Brazil lighting with a plain vanilla light (which will, as
pointed out, put way too much light on the statue) why not just use a
spotlight to begin with?

Thanks!
