I added an atmosphere and then played around with the colours and sun position
to get this pretty image. The water's been made transparent, though with this
lighting you can't really tell.

Now all I'm hoping is that I'll be able to contrive some way to use this in the
next IRTC stills topic. Still, I'm sure there's room for a few oddly shaped
planetoids!

BTW, I noticed just before posting that the grass was a little too green. This
is because whilst making my beautiful sunset I forgot to change the colour of
the light! Doh!

Anyway, let me know what you think :)

I like it very much: nice colours except perhaps for the grass as you
said.
What happens to the ocean water at an edge of the cube: that is what
interests me a lot. Does it just follow the surface of the cube as if it
were flat??

Yep. It has a sharp corner in it, so does the atmosphere. I'll leave it to your
own judgement whether this is artistic license or laziness on my part ;)

Hi Tek and all others!

Impressive... but the water still looks too viscous to be taken for water, its
ripples are too large, it looks more like oil - or like those exotic liquid
hydrocarbons we might encounter soon on Saturn's moon Titan!

Either reason: I like it :))

The sun and sky look great, but the terrain seems a bit unnatural in
foreground and mountains now (the distant hills on the left look good).

Maybe having the edge of the cube on one side of the picture so you can
see the corner in the horizon would look interesting.

Let's say, on Cubeworld, gravitational attraction always goes
perpendicular to one of the faces, so at the corners you get gravity
like this:

>V | | | | |
__>V | | | |
____>V | | |
______>V V V
______>
______>

That's why the atmosphere has sharp corners, and also why it is rather
uncomfortable for Cubeworld dwellers to venture from face to face... ;)

I like that :)

I've been thinking it would be really cool to create an animation of some of the
inhabitants of Cubeworld traversing the edge. I have an idea for a ship rocking
on the waves, then rocking forwards 90 degrees further and splashing into the
water on the other side! Unfortunately I'm working on a submission for the new
irtc stills round (maybe using Cubeworld, undecided at present), so I don't
expect to be getting enough time to animate anything.
