An early preview of (hopefully) my irtc entry. Wall textures may change.
I also might remove the normal from the wall stones and replace with
an isosurface noise function. I'm also considering adding some form
of relief work to the columns.

Looks nice, but the viewpoint should be improved concerning the right
columns IMO.
Isosurfaces for the bricks sounds good, as long as you can afford the
rendering time. I'm not sure if it would have much advantage in this
case.
I'm just working on something for this round too, no isosurfaces at all
until now, but the test render with high quality radiosity i started 24
hours ago has only finished 11 percent of the final trace until now :-)

I think changing to an isosurface would help as you could also add a slight
perturbation to make the bricks seem less like they were all made in the
same mold. Also the mortar seems quite thick for those size bricks, although
this is down to personal taste I suppose.
It also looks like this is going to be an image that needs high aa settings
to make the patterns on the columns and floor seem right.
Good luck with the competition, I hope you make the deadline

You worship "Thin Red Line" so much you made a temple for it? <ducks>

<sigh> <g> The red lines on the columns are to help with sizing the object
in
the scene. Lines are at 1.5 metres above the floor and will be removed
later in development.

If I manage to do some fancy carvings on the columns I might leave the
camera there, otherwise I'll find a better location once I've got
some more of my objects in the scene

Isosurfaces look much better, and render 5 times slower

Oh. I hope you can finish the modelling quickly or have a large number of
very powerful computers around.

Yup, the pic I posted was +A0.0 I think for final I'll probably need +AM2
+R3 +A0.0
and about a week for it to render <grin>

Unfortunately I wont be entering. I've promised myself that one day I will
enter. I always seem to start work on something else just before the new
topic is announced, and therefore carry on with what I'm doing, oh well.

I thought they were "You must be this tall to enter the temple" signs.

<sigh> How unfortunate. I was starting to like them :)
Oh, and BTW here's how fortune greeted me today:
'If at first you don't succeed, give up, no use being a damn fool.'
