    Sorry - didn't do any colour correction on it before I posted it - it
could also be a monitor gamma issue ? on my PC, with my red-blue glasses it
looks good but not perfect - some of the red gets through the blue lens and
some of blue & green gets through the red lens, but it's good enough for the
error not to get in the way (just makes it look like it's got an odd 'glow'
around it).

    Yeah, it does look a little odd - even at 1152x768 it's a little
difficult to make out the glass sphere, but, I hope that will improve as I
add to the scene - some reflections of the room it stands in and a splash of
photons should help, I think. I may also try thickening the glass a little.

    There's both reflection and refraction in there :

// Frame and stand material.
#declare ChromeMaterial=
material {
 texture {
  pigment { color rgb 1 }
  finish { specular 1 roughness 0.001 metallic reflection 0.5 }
 }
}

#declare GlassMaterial=
material {
 texture {
  pigment { color rgbf 1 }
  finish { specular 1 roughness 0.0001 reflection 0.25 }
 }
 interior { ior 1.5 }
}

    Cheers. A fire globe, well, it's a globe of fire. Just a figment of my
imagination - once I figure out the correct combination of emmiting and
absorbing media, the glass sphere will become partly filled with a kind of
fiery plasma effect.

> I do have a little difficulty in seeing the glass globe...

    Yeah - see my reply to Bob for more on this.

> I would like to know how you go about making this?? :))

    Er, which bit - the modelling or the 3d-effect ?

    Thought I'd post this, I've got the fiery media just about how I want it
now - the trouble is, this 320x240, AA 0.1, AM2 render took nearly 12 days
!!!
    There's actually loads more detail in the media than you can see at this
res (hence the use of antialiasing and the high render time), but I'm
intending to do the finished thing at 1152x864 (hmm, I wish I could afford
to upgrade to a PIII 1Ghz right now) !

    Thoughts, comments, questions or criticisms ?

(BTW, the setting is still temporary (I put it in so that I could get the
media emmision and absorption levels right))

    I'll be starting the right hand image later tonight (once it's done I'll
post it and the resulting RGB stereogram) but that's another 12 days
rendering away...

What processor do you have?!?

It looks very "fiery", and I can tell it has a lot of detail, but it
looks kind of stratified...there seem to be distinct layers. Maybe you
wanted that, but it doesn't look quite right to me...

    PII 400. :-( So any donations that anyone wants to make to the "Buy
Scott a 1Ghz PIII fund" would be gratefully received. ;-)

    Well, I abandoned that render part way through - after doing a test the
3D effect on a partial image - basically, it was shit, so, I've reworked the
media a little - adjusted the colour and made it fade to black towards the
centre. Anyhow, here's a quick and dirty render of it (right hand image,
left hand image and full colour 3d image all attached (though, I've not
tweaked the colours in the 3d image so you may see some ghosting) and I plan
to set a high quality, high res render going tonight...

    Enjoy...
