It's a term that means: My father's brother. However, it is also used (in
the U.S.) as a means of raising the white flag, or saying "I give up!".
Seeing that I posted a couple of initial pics (and appear to have
unwittingly beat you to the task), then you came back with all the planets
(except Mercury) PLUS some of the moons, I clearly see I have been "beaten".
So, I said "Uncle".

I figured it would be cryptic to some, but I went ahead, anyhow. It was a
good-natured little joke.

Cheers

P.S. I am now off to make my moon-orbiting earth plus moon meteor impact
animation. Fair warning. ;-) ;-)

You have made several posts of images, he is crying Uncle to give up the
game. (Not very helpful, is it? Imagine your big brother (if you don't
have one, make one up) is pinning you on the ground and pulling your arm
behind your shoulder blades, which hurts a lot. You cry "Uncle" to make
him stop. Why? I have no idea.)

Personally, I thank you for the images. Perhaps posting them on a
website and making a single post to that link would stop some of the
worrying.

Duo "Uncle"

While I find it great that you have maps to create all the solar system in
it's glory, I found this about as interesting as spheres over a checkered
plane.

Now that you have all the planets, why not add something to your pictures to
make each one unique and worth looking at... after all, you have mastered
applying an image map to a sphere now.

Should I repost my "2001: Mars Encounter" rendering? ;)

BTW, how did you create the starry background?

I took the Yale Bright Star Catalogue and converted it to a POV include file
using a little Visual Basic application.

Uninteresting as you may find it, as an astronomy lecturer I DO find it
interesting and VERY useful to have these models!

One image map? The Earth took FIVE layered textures plus a media for the
atmosphere!
All my images are hand scripted with the Earth alone taking three full pages
of script.

The starmap was created from the Yale Bright Star Catalogue and converted to
a POV include file using a Visual Basic application.

Unless you have a more constructive comment I suggest you stop having a go
at people who HAVE mastered image_maps!
