Hi Samuel!

Long time no see. :o) You just posted the same 3 times, you know that? Two
times with the image attached.

It looks impressive and perhaps I should look at the Gimp. Funny name for an
editor, at least in my langauge. Was this picture created (painted /
scanned) with both a colormap and a bumpmap? Or the bumpmap was derived
from the colormap?

Oh, and I realize I'm posting too much around here lately.. I should
probably stop myself.

Regards,
Hugo

Hi Hugo!

Those other postings were mistakes, for the wrong user name was used.

The image used for the heightfield was actually painted using the Gimp. It took
several hours.

...You mean, YOU did this? Now I am truly impressed!! You are a true artist
at heart! I thought this was a photograph of a sculpture, or maybe a
3d-scanning with expensive hardware in some Hollywood studio! It's
absolutely stunning!

Welcome back, what more can I say!

Hugo

This is very impressive indeed. The height-field looks really nice, and
using radiosity lighting in this way picks out the detail in a way thats
usually very difficult when photographing carvings like this in real life,
because theres almost always some strong directional light from somewhere.

How did you do the pigments of the texture, such as the white blotches? Are
these an image map or procedural textures?

Wow... I can't believe you did that by hand. Did you use some
digitizer/digital pen? It's impressive.

Hi Chris,

The texture is an average of three bumps patterns.

Hi Feranado,

No, it was all done using the basic paint tools plus Gimp's
impressionist plugin for the spirals.

Any chance you could post a lo-res version of the height-field image to show
us what it looks like - I myself find it quite difficult to visualise how it
must look for an image such as this one.

Thanks,

-Chris
