Hi,

Messing around with POV-Tree, the trace function, slope maps, radiosity,
HFs and a few other things. I still need to get better control of using
the slope map feature. I would also like to add some more leaf litter like
stuff to the forest floor and will probably switch to area lights for
softer shadows later on. I won't even admit how long it took me to get
the camera location and lighting angles to where they are now... ...and
yes it is supposed to be on the darkish side.

Any comments or suggestions welcome.

Looks good.
I think this is the first POV-Tree forest :)
You can also try to add some mesh bushes
(making trunk length = 0). And some grass
and leaves on the ground will definitely improve
the scene.

Gena.

Nice looking trees especially. I was messing with POV-Tree myself
recently, but I couldn't be sure if "Preview" was just taking a long
time or not working at all.

POV-Tree is a Java program. As a result it's not so fast as a program
written in C/C++. It's a price for its multi-platform support :)

Very detailed tree can take a lot of time to preview it. I would
recommend to work separately on different parts of your tree.
First, work on roots/trunk. Then disable roots (on tree tab),
enable trunk and work on branches (without twigs) etc. This
way preview will be more responsive.

Gena.

Hey Gena, where are the Example Trees? Are they somewhere on your site
that I am missing? They didn't seem to be packed in the download?

It's under 'Examples' menu in the program itself.
You have to save it either as blob include file or mesh.

Most impressive... I really love the colour of the sky. The hill/mountain
looks lovely. The trees are great too. Only thing I would add is that
perhaps the left hand side of the image could be just slighly brighter to
show off those trees a bit more.

Either that or I've got the gamma of my monitor set wrong! (What am I on
about? My video card doesn't HAVE gamma correction, and nor does any of my
image viewing software...)

Thanks.
Andrew.

Extreme dumb-ass question... What's POV-Tree?

Andrew.

It's a tree generator based on TOMTREE macro by Tom Aust
and written in Java. You can get here:
