Final version? I've added some randomness to the minifigs and made the
end one the flagbearer. I think it's looking pretty complete. I'm not
sure about the exact camera position and the blur amount, but I could
spend years moving the camera a bit and rerendering...

My blur settings for this one are:
      aperture .5
      blur_samples 40
      confidence .98
      variance .0015

I think it's pretty cool the way it is.
The only thing I would change is reduce the blur a little,
but I liked the image.

For me the blur amount is fine, but far too grainy. I think 40 samples is
way too low. I had to go up to 200 for an image I just finished, but the
smooth result was well worth it.

I noticed that the grass gets suddenly darker toward the right hand side of
the image. Any idea what causes this? Maybe a really wide lawn-mower?

All the best,

Andy

It looks pretty good. I noticed that the flag bearer's flag is the same
one of the flags on the castle. I guess they are just practicing
marching outside their own castle, not attacking it.

Looks pretty cool. Just one question: Have you considered doing a movie
of your models going through a battle? :)

The idea of blurring the foreground is fine: but IMO the castle should
be in focus. The point is that one is wondering about the castle: what
are they going to do to defend themselves. But now you can't see
enough...

The scene is OK to me :)

I could go up on samples for another render at this res, but I plan to
render it at 5100x3400 for a poster and I think at that res it won't
matter as much; besides, the render time will already be through the
roof for a poster.

The slight bands are some sort of aliasing artifacts or something to do
with the lighting in the narrow spaces inside the grass. The same
effect, but much worse, is visible in
http://davidf.faricy.net/renders/autumn.jpg which uses Gilles Tran's
grass macro.

Hmm... well, this one was at 0.5... I think I have it pretty close to
where I want it, but I could go back to 0.45.

Yep. Actually, when I put the flagbearer in, the red and blue where
switched by accident. So that is entirely intentional...

Hmm, I could switch the flags and shields around, and point the phalanx
more towards the castle. I'm never quite perfectly satisfied with the
layout on this one. Part of raytracing is knowing when to stop! :o

Just ship me the UltraSPARC(s) and I'll get started... ;)
