this is not a quality scene test
this is not my model (viewpoint)
this is not a pov scene (at the origin)
this IS a POV rendering
I am working on a MAX2.5 plug-in to render in POV.
this is one of the first image I produced.
the plug-in is a MAX2.5 Renderer that generates a POV scene and call POV
to render the scene. with this, you don't have to export your scene to a
3DS file, then convert it to a POV scene and then render it with POV.
You just have to clic: "render" (a teapot) and everything is done
automaticaly.
what the plug does (24 hours of work for now):
- geometry (he he !!) with smooth_triangles
- basic parameters of pigment: color, specular, metallic, ambient
- texture mapping (using MegaPOV0.7 for its UV feature)
- point lights (omni in MAX)
- spot lights
- target camera (camera with a "look_at")
- render a still image or an animation (sequence of images, no video
computation for now)
- activation of radiosity and antialiasing
what is planned:
- "free camera" (no "look_at")
- "cylindrical light"
- "multi-sub" (an object with multiple image_map)
- fog
- postprocess effects (stars, blur ?, ...)
- more pigment parameters
- maybe procedural pigments and normal
- correct some annoying messages from MAX

This sounds good, but... please... carefully... read... POVLEGAL. If
you are able to keep within the bounds of the license, cool!

yes, I know I have to read it carefully. just didn't had time.
but I'm not afraid, because I don't use the POV code into the plug-in,
it is like an export plug-in that allows you to call POV directly for
you. And I won't have this plug-in sold or something like that...
thanks for the advice !

PS: if I have question about particular english terms, do you think I
can ask to a POV team member or someone else ?

I read the POVLEGAL.DOC file and then sent a mail to
"tea### [at] povrayorg" to be sure...
so, waiting for the answer, I'm stopping my work on the plug-in.
I hope, it will be possible to continue this, I found this work very
interesting (regarding POV and MAX)

The boundary line between what POV does and what it does not must
always be very clear. The user must also know that POV is a separate
program available from povray.org and... well, and the rest of
POVLEGAL :) Read it carefully it's not that long. Shorter than your
plugin code for sure :))

The Team is busy working on 3.5. Ask the TAG. That's why we're here.
