Don't you just hate it when you realise you've made an error in your render
that's causing it to go really slow, but it's already drawn so much that you
don't know if you should stop it and fix the error or leave it to run to the
end. I was faced with this dilemma after this image had been running for 18
hours. I decided to make my change and splice it back together, though it
still took over 25 hours in total!!!

Anyway, since the last posting I've added a town, two forests, beaches and
some bumps to the ground. And most obviously I've whacked in some rather
over-the-top swirling clouds, done with julia fractals. To be honest I'm in
two minds about the swirly clouds, they either look really really good or
really really bad, and I can't decide which :)

What do you think?

I'd suggest a little better height field for the terrain, and for the cloud
around the castle... I'd suggest you to make it a bit bigger so it surrounds
the castle completely, but not too big and its current color and settings are
ok...

You know, I'm beggining to think I'm the only person who actually likes the
flat ground! Probably something to do with growing up on the Somerset
levels...

Still, I might give some hills a try ;)

And perhaps some shadows cast on the ground could add a feeling of size
and position? Just a laymans proposal :)

I agree with everyone else about the flat ground (sorry). I think it needs
a little bit more variety than just a planar effect. The biggest thing I
would change about your image is that the floating castle really has no
texture. It would even help if you varied the phong value for different
areas of it. I'm not sure if I like the julia fractal clouds or not. My
first thought was "force field" but maybe you could make it work like that
too. I like the idea of seeing the shadow of the castle on the ground but
maybe that would mess up your lighting. Great modelling. Nice clean feel.
Keep up the good work.

Oops, I should have pointed out that I haven't done the fortress texture
yet. Unlike H.E. Day I can't produce an image that looks finished in 3 days
:) I -will- be putting textures on the fortress, and the island it's on is
going to completely change, probably.

Cheers.

I like the cloud. But to me it doesn't look like a cloud, it looks more like
a portal to another dimension, which helps explain, in my mind at least, why
this castle is floating in the air.

I like the landscape. The ship needs some real texturing though. The sheen on it
doesn't seem fitting either.
I like what you have going here...
