The left image rendered with Plain Old POV, the right with MegaPOV 0.5
(without the #version switch to activate MP features).

The camera is an ultra_wide_angle 179, so the right image is correct. It
has to be a camera problem, because the left is similar (being a
mathematician that means exact copy scaled) to the center portion of the
right.

Sorry if this has been addressed before.

The MegaPov documentation says

      9.2.4. Camera Bug Fixes

      Author: Gerald K. Dobiasovsky

This patch fixes some bugs in the ultra_wide_angle and cylinder
      cameras.

Might this possibly be the cause of MegaPOV getting it right?

Except 179 degrees should be 179 degrees of view. If a test hemisphere had
been used instead the camera ought to be able to see all parts of it (almost).
Not easy to see that in this render.
Any chance up and right vectors are playing a role? Guess not huh.

Yeah, but I didn't want to make a whole new scene to test it out when this one was
done and rendered and adequately demonstrated my point.

Keeping in mind it is a stellation of the icosahderon (and also a compound of five
tetrahedra), there should be ten points where three 120 degree angles come
together. (Because of reflection it looks more like six 60 degree angles). If you
look just down from the center you can tell that there's a ring of five surrounded
by another ring of five.

Yes, that would explain it. Guess I should RTFM. :)
