Upgraded my P166 to Celeron 500 last year and was looking forward to,
at last, being able to render some of my glass files I'd tried over
the years and filed away under "You're joking?".

An 800 component blob. Needed all those to remove "ribs". No aa,
default Max_T_L 5 way too low, single light source. Intended to remove
finish and normal from plane to speed things up but forgot :(

Pov 3.1g for DOS, 56 hours to trace and I don't like it. Too much rgb,
not enuf cmy. Aargh! Only 24 secs for opaque version no aa. A 12
minute pic, 38k jpeg, opaque with aa is at
www.peake42.freeserve.co.uk/pix2/blob1.jpg

Tried MegaPov 0.4 and photons - was still on first glass pixel after
half hour.

Try increasing the component radius and lowering the strength and/or
increasing the threshold instead. Should reduce the ribs pretty well.

Hi Peter, thanks for the suggestion. I've tried threshold 0.1 to 1 and
compensated with strength and this seems about the best bearing in
mind that the number of components will also affect the result. What
is OK for opaque is not so good for clear with refraction. Also the
blob is "wound" around an imaginary torus and the blob tends to
thicken on the inside turns.

If you want to see a full screen glass version send me the code with
any instructions that I need to know about, and in a few weeks it
should be done.

Thanks for the offer Steve, I may take you up on that :))
1st I've got to sort out the pigment calculations though, and there is
a lot more stuff ahead of that on my list of "important things to do".
