some small smudges on the foot. the red round thing which is clearly
seen in my last post doesn't eve show up in this one. it has ambience
of 1, so i'm not sure why it disappeared. in the previous post, it also
had diffuse of 1, but now it's at 0. i used megapov texture features
like blurred reflection and metallic reflection, as well as normal on
and kari's radiosity settings. i'm not sure these combinations worked
as good as my last try. perhaps if i could keep the radiosity from
before but lose the smudges at least as much as i did this time, get
some of the shine back, and some of the yellow sun tint back it'd be
groovy.

oh yeah, and the shadow line is more harsh this time too. not sure
which is more realistic. i'm posting this as a zip in the appropriate
spot.

I just found the same kind of thing happening in the Arnold render I posted
here just now. The mouth is a blob differenced away from another blob
(head) with a texture of bright red, medium ambient and high diffuse. I
expected it to show up well in radiosity. Must be the cavernous nature of
it. I guess yours has a cutaway into there so that it's inset somewhat.
What happened to the tracks? Unevenly spaced.

Bob

You know, I am starting to admire and envy people who can spend months
working on the same project. I am afraid that my attention goes off to other
things if the project takes more than a few days.

they were never evenly spaced because r2's center tread is offset. i've
got pics from the movies that show it quite clearly, so i had to do it
that way. the center tread is on r2's left of center. the right edge
of the tread lines up with the center of the middle foot. the tread
trails are different than before. i had been using patches laid on top
of the terrain, now i'm just cutting boxes out of the terrain. i'm
thinking a combination of the two might be better; make the cut with the
boxes, and then build an edge (where the dirt has been shoved to) with a
patch.

thanks, but the reason it takes months is because i can't do it all at
once. if i could, it would take a fraction of the time. i usually have
to distract myself with little research projects or video games, not to
mention daily household chores that always need doing.
