Just another pic of my nautilus.
There still is a lot to do. Sky, clouds and so on..
Unfortunately, i have not much time to work on it.

comments? What about the water? (thanks to the tutorial of christof
hormann)

I like this a lot. I am guessing that the water is a normal of some
kind. The intersection of the water and the sub (which looks awesome!!)
is a line, not choppy at all. I think maybe an isosurface might be
better. But then again, I don't know how long it would take for
something like that to render.

Hi Robert!

cool ship!
and very cool water with somehow realisitc refractions (is it rmf or what?)
and if there is no sky - it's night. but then you will see the glow (jules
verne
wrote something about it - the lamps where that powerfull that the whole the
sea
near nautilus glowed somewhat blue-white.
With the glow it would be a perfect nautilus-at-night-picture, me thinks.
but
don't kill the contrast to the black sea too much. it's nice that way, too.

Using an isosurface instead of the normal sounds like a good idea, i already
thought of extending my tutorial but i did not yet have time...

Everything else looks quite good, the water could have some fading interior
IMO. For making it a nighttime scene i would suggest at least a bit of skylight
(maybe moonshine) so the water gets some structure behind the submarine.

The sub looks great, but it could use some more rivets or boltheads or something.

The water looks good, but there's so much more that could be done with
it if you have the processing power: make it an isosurface, add photon
caustics, add scattering media for the underwater light, maybe some
light fading...

If you plan on making this a daytime scene, you should expect things to
go all to hell, or at least look wrong, when you put the sky in.. they
always seem to. Or you could make it a nighttime scene, but you'll need
to change the lighting.. well, you'll probably need to do that anyway.

The way the Nautilus is brightly lit even under water, and the texture
of the water, makes it look like it is spotlit in a dark cave.

I think the water looks too transparent; with an object the size of a submarine,
the lower part of the hull should be much less wisible. Add some light fading or
absorbing media to the water (or magnify the effect if you've already applied
it).

I think the Disney version had lighting (of some sort) around the waterline.
That might help with aspects of the scene you have attempted to bring out.

Your sub appears to be molded from one piece. I don't think Nautilus had
that technology, but texturing the surface with panel-like sections would
add more realism anyway. The fin/rudder structure appears to be too blunt,
as well. Aside from that, more minutiae might be called for. Just
suggestions, as I know it is a WIP.

However, if you were trying for a plastic sub in a black bathtub, you've hit
the mark! :)

thats a cracker, the water looks to 'glassy', and is it me or does the image
look grainy?

Is it really lit from underwater? To me it looks like a 'conserve_energy' is
(maybe intentionally) missing. The effect adds to the spooky look, so don't
change it :)

P.S.: this is my first posting after being in read-only mode for over a
year. Hi all!
