Using an isosurface instead of the normal sounds like a good idea, i already
thought of extending my tutorial but i did not yet have time...

Everything else looks quite good, the water could have some fading interior
IMO.  For making it a nighttime scene i would suggest at least a bit of skylight
(maybe moonshine) so the water gets some structure behind the submarine.
