I think the Disney version had lighting (of some sort) around the waterline.
That might help with aspects of the scene you have attempted to bring out.

Your sub appears to be molded from one piece. I don't think Nautilus had
that technology, but texturing the surface with panel-like sections would
add more realism anyway. The fin/rudder structure appears to be too blunt,
as well. Aside from that, more minutiae might be called for. Just
suggestions, as I know it is a WIP.

However, if you were trying for a plastic sub in a black bathtub, you've hit
the mark! :)
