A simple smoke effect made with a function media in MegaPov. The left
smoke is a isosurface which works great for a preview, renders in about
half a minute on my p2-266. The right smoke is the real thing a took
several hours to render.
I'm not happy about the dark shadows that it casts but it's ok for
now...
Working on an animated version now, hope to post it in the next couple
of days.

/Anders

Don't look too bad - a bit strong maybe, but smoke does cast shadows,
doesn't it?

That looks very good. Good movement in it already in the still form. Will you
be sharing the source for this?

Looks very nice !
if you take it upside down, it looks like flowing liquid !

Several hours?!? What media settings were you using? Hours might make
sense with method 1, but 2 and 3 should be able to do this with much
lower settings.

Actually, considering only one light source and no radiosity, the shadow
looks just right...in real life, there would be illumination from other
sources to help fill it in, though.

Maybe I'll post the source when I've cleaned it up a bit... it's quite ugly
right now. =)
The basic formula is a simple cylinder (x^2+z^2) with 3d noise that changes
amplitude with the y axis. Not a very scientific approach but it seems to
work quite fine.

Don't be too hard on yourself. I think the shadow may appear worse due to
the way you have defined the background object.

Can't wait to see the final.
